 |
The Greater Burlington YMCA has a long history of serving our community.
Founded in 1866 as a men's prayer group that met above a storefront on College Street,
the Y grew to meet the needs of young men coming to the bustling city of Burlington
by providing rooms, physical education and cultural programs.
By the early 1900's, the Y began serving women and children,
and by the end of the century became Vermont's largest provider of child care programs.
Our downtown facility houses two indoor pools, as well as an air-conditioned
Strive/Nautilus/Cardiovascular Center, Spinning Studio, and Gymnasium.
Adult members may also choose to join our Men's or Women's Wellness Centers,
which contain a whirlpool, sauna, steam room, additional equipment, and towel
service.
There are over 100 exercise and sports programs a week, including step, pre/post natal exercise,
yoga, kickboxing, dance classes, water fitness classes, swim lessons and basketball leagues.
The Y's values respect, responsibility, caring and
honesty are shown not only in the fitness programs we offer, but also
camping programs, teen programs and a child care program. Through the
Membership For All scholarship program, we served many
low-income individuals and families, making quality child care and healthy
activities available through fee assistance.
